The canton of Lucerne rejects the initiative for the admission of refugees by SP cantonal councillor Sara Muff. Back in May, she demanded that Lucerne lobby the federal government to take in refugees from the Greek islands. It is absolutely incomprehensible that the canton is not prepared to ask the federal government for admission in this emergency. Last Wednesday, the Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos burned down. Almost 13,000 people have been homeless and barely provided for on the island’s streets since then. The only acceptable solution to this humanitarian disaster is the immediate evacuation of all refugees from the island.
