The decision of the Belarusian government in summer of 2021 to allow People on the Move to use Minsk as a point of departure for their route to Europe, has given the Polish government grounds for starting a marathon of militarization and propaganda for its own nationalist interests. Millions of Euros have since been spent on military responses, amongst others for the implementation of an exclusion zone along the border, the construction of physical border walls and surveillance technology. At the same time, thousands of people are still trying to cross the border to reach Europe, taking potentially life-threatening routes through rivers and swamps, always at risk of being discovered, arrested, beaten, robbed and pushed back.
For the past year, several collectives have been active along the border in Poland to resist the racist practices of the Polish government and to provide first aid and basic support to people trying to reach Europe. Their activities have been going on for more than a year now but a change of the situation is not in sight.
During the workshop we want to shed light on a context that has long been forgotten by mainstream media and listen to experiences of resistance in an anti-racist and anti-nationalist struggle.
