«Taking in refugees from the Moria camp»

Postulat d'urgence
Level: Municipality
Municipality: Baden (AG)
Status: Accepted

Attendance

In an urgent postulate, the SP demands the reception of refugees from the (new) Camp Moria on Lesbos.

“The city council of Baden is asked,

  • to agree to take in 14 refugees from Moria;
  • to call on the canton and the Confederation to take the necessary measures to enable the reception of refugees from Moria;
  • to coordinate with the towns and municipalities in the canton of Aargau and with Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Winterthur and Zurich, which take similar initiatives to receive refugees”.

The city council of Baden has commented positively on the postulate:

“The town of Baden is to take in 14 refugees from the camp of Moria on the Greek island of Lesbos, which was destroyed by fire. The refugees on Lesbos “are in a humanitarian emergency”, says the town council in its response to the urgent postulate of residents’ councillor Nora Langmoen (SP).

However, the city council makes it a condition for admission that the legal prerequisites are created. The admission of refugees is regulated at federal level. The city of Baden has therefore informed the municipal association of its willingness to do so. The latter is in contact with the federal government on this matter and is to take over coordination with other Swiss cities which have also declared their willingness to accept refugees. The city of Baden has also already made contact with such municipalities from the canton of Aargau”.

Badener Tagblatt vom 26.11.20

The residents’ council approved the postulate on 08.12.20 with a clear majority.
